What Magnitude does

🏛️
Digital twin your locations
We work with specialist scanning crews to capture broadcast-quality 3D digital twins of your locations using LiDAR and photogrammetry. The result is an interactive, explorable 3D scan that productions can use for remote recce, previs, and virtual production.
⚖️
Manage the rights
Every scan is legally rights-managed from the start. We generate scanning permits, licence agreements, and revenue share arrangements — all documented, tracked, and backed up automatically. You stay in control.
💷
Generate revenue for your locations
Every time a production licences a scan of your location, you earn a share of the fee. We handle the payments and send you clear monthly statements. Your location owners receive their share through you — we never contact them directly.

How it works — Scenario 1

🎬
Most common
A production licences a scan that already exists on Magnitude
A scan of your location is already on the platform. A production finds it, browses it in our 3D viewer, and decides they want to licence it. Everything from there is automated.
1
Production browses Magnitude
They find your location's scan, explore it in the 3D viewer, use professional tools like measurements and lens preview for their recce. No login required to browse.
Production
2
They select a licence tier
They choose the licence that matches their intended use — Film & TV, Advertising, Games, Editorial, and more. They see the price you've set, choose territory and duration, and pay.
Production
Licence agreement generated automatically
Magnitude generates a formal licence agreement PDF specific to what was purchased — the correct permitted uses, the right parties, your additional terms if any. Sent to both parties for signature via DocuSign.

Both parties sign
You (or your designated signatory) sign first via DocuSign, then the production company. The executed agreement is stored securely and backed up to Google Drive.

Revenue distributed
Magnitude takes 10% platform commission. The remainder is distributed to you and the scanning crew per your agreed split. Monthly statements show all sales and amounts due.

How it works — Scenario 2

📷
Production has their own scanning crew
A production wants to scan one of your locations themselves
The production has their own scanning capability and wants to capture your location. This requires two separate legal instruments: a scanning permit (permission to capture) and a licence agreement (permission to use what they captured).
Important: A scanning permit grants permission to capture only. It does not grant any rights to use, distribute, or commercialise the resulting data. A separate licence agreement is always required — regardless of who did the scanning.
1
Production applies for a scanning permit
They upload their existing filming permit from Apply4 or their film office. Magnitude extracts and parses the location details automatically. They select which locations they want to scan and declare their intended use.
Production Magnitude
2
You review the application
You receive the application in your Magnitude dashboard. You can approve it at the stated fee, adjust the fee, add special conditions, or decline. All changes are tracked with a full version history.
Location Management
3
Payment and 48-hour approval window
The production pays the permit fee. You have 48 hours to do a final review. If you take no action, the permit is automatically approved. If you decline within 48 hours, the fee is automatically refunded.
Production Location Management
Scanning permit generated
A formal scanning permit PDF is generated per location, clearly stating that this permits capture only and that a separate licence is required before any commercial use. Backed up to Google Drive and emailed to both parties.

Scanning takes place
The production crew scans your location within the agreed dates and conditions.
Production
5
Licence agreement — mandatory
The production must now licence the scan they've captured before using it commercially. The licence tier and fee is based on their declared intended use. This is a separate fee from the permit.

Complete — production can use their scan
With permit and licence both executed, the production can legally use their scan for the declared purpose. Revenue from the licence distributed as agreed.
Magnitude (automated)
Your role: Set your permit fee. Review applications and approve, adjust, or decline. Sign the licence agreement. You control both instruments.

How it works — Scenario 3

💰
Scan listed for others to licence
A production scans your location and wants to list it on Magnitude
The production or their scanning crew wants to capture your location and make it available on Magnitude for other productions to licence. This creates an ongoing revenue stream for your location.
1–4
Scanning permit (same as Scenario 2)
Permit applied for, reviewed, approved, and executed as above. The intended use is declared as "Platform listing" — this affects the permit fee structure.
Scanning Permit PDF
5
Revenue share agreement
You and the scanning crew agree on how ongoing licence revenue will be split between you. This is negotiated between you directly — Magnitude provides the framework and records the agreed percentage.

Scan goes live on Magnitude
The scan is uploaded and published. You control which licence tiers are available, at what prices, and can add your own additional terms per your location's specific requirements.

Your role: Approve the permit. Agree revenue split with the scanning crew. Set pricing per licence tier. Receive ongoing revenue statements to share with your location owners as you see fit.

How it works — Scenario 4

📍
Starting point
List your locations before any scan exists
You don't need a scan to get started. List your locations in the Magnitude directory with photos, descriptions, and permit information. Productions can browse and enquire immediately.
1
Create your location listings
Add your locations to the Magnitude directory — name, description, photos, video, GPS coordinates, categories, permit fees, and your contact details. You can import from a spreadsheet if you have a large portfolio.
Location Management
2
Locations go live in the directory
Your locations appear on the Magnitude locations page, discoverable by productions worldwide. A "Scan coming soon" badge can be shown if scanning is planned.
Magnitude
3
Productions enquire and apply
Productions can submit filming enquiries and scanning permit applications directly through the platform. All managed in your dashboard. If you have an Apply4 listing, we can link to it directly.

Common questions

Do you contact our location owners directly?
Never. Your relationship with your location owners is yours. Magnitude generates revenue statements and receipts for you to share with your owners as you see fit, on your own terms. We store their details for accounting purposes only.
Can we add our own terms to licence agreements?
Yes. Each location can have its own "Additional Terms" — access restrictions, insurance requirements, credit obligations, whatever conditions are specific to your location. These are automatically included in every licence agreement generated for that location.
What if we already use Apply4 or Filmapp?
Apply4 handles filming permits — Magnitude handles scanning permits and digital twin licensing. They're complementary. Productions can upload their Apply4 permit to Magnitude to initiate a scanning permit application, so there's no double data entry. If you have an Apply4 listing, we link directly to it for physical bookings.
Can we set different prices for different productions?
Yes. You set a base price per licence tier per location. For any specific application you can adjust the price up or down — for example to offer a discount to a public broadcaster or a premium for an exclusive arrangement. All adjustments are tracked in the platform.
What happens if we want to take a scan down?
You can remove a scan from public browse at any time. However, if a Production Team has an active workspace using that scan, it remains accessible to them until their subscription expires — you can't remove access they've already paid for. Magnitude will notify all affected parties.
Is it free to join as a Location Management account?
Yes. Location Management accounts are free. You earn through permit fees (which go 100% to you) and licence revenue shares. Magnitude charges no upfront fee and no subscription — we only earn when you earn.
How are documents stored and backed up?
All executed permits and licence agreements are stored securely on the Magnitude platform, backed up automatically to Google Drive, and emailed to all parties on execution. Full version history for every document.
